YouTube Video Privacy Types

Posted September 12, 2016 · 1 min read

YouTube offers three main privacy types for uploaded video content:

  1. Public: Public videos are standard videos that are fully public and can be viewed by anyone. They are also searchable and will appear in relevant search results.
  2. Unlisted: Unlisted content does not appear in YouTube searches, though they are generally to be considered otherwise public. They can be embedded on a website, and are accessible to anyone that has the direct link to the video. Note that if you don't have total control over who has access to the video, you should consider it public, as the link can be generated and shared by anyone.
  3. Private: Private videos are only accessible to those that have been explicitly provided access. Only registered and logged-in users can view private content that they have been authorized to view.
